Questions remain over the whereabouts of controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi, after he allegedly survived an attempt on his life.

Police say Mogotsi has not been cooperating with authorities, following the incident.

It is reported that his vehicle came under a hail of bullets in Vosloorus last night.

National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says Mogotsi told officers he was being followed by a white bakkie while driving alone.

He was expected to report to the Vosloorus Police Station on Tuesday morning, but failed to show up.

Mathe says Mogotsi has not honoured any appointment with police since October, after his home was raided in Mahikeng.

“He alleges that his phone is not working, so he gave the station commander, a person that he identifies as his bodyguard, he gave the station commander that number. That phone is ringing and is unanswered.”

Amid speculation that the incident may have been staged, Mathe warned that Mogotsi could face charges of defeating the ends of justice if any wrongdoing is uncovered.

Mathe added that there is no evidence to suggest Mogotsi was injured, and no blood stains were found at the scene.

Mogotsi, who is alleged to have close ties to embattled Minister Senzo Mchunu, is accused of acting as a middleman between Mchunu and murder suspect Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The North West businessman allegedly facilitated the exchange of confidential police information for funds purportedly used to support ANC operations.

Meanwhile, social media users have criticised Mogotsi, accusing him of wasting state resources in what many have described as a staged hit.
