The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will resume on October 13, following today’s unexpected adjournment after Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo, fell ill.

Khumalo, who has been providing explosive evidence on the alleged infiltration of criminal syndicates into South Africa’s justice system, was scheduled to appear for a third consecutive day.

Commission Chairperson, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, said Khumalo arrived at the venue at 9am but was unable to continue, prompting the postponement.

The South African Police Service has confirmed that Khumalo is receiving medical attention.

National Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, reassured the public that he will continue his testimony once he has recuperated

The inquiry will also take a scheduled break next week, as Commissioner Sesi Baloyi attends to her duties with the Judicial Service Commission.

The commission’s spokesperson, Jeremy Michaels, emphasized that the postponement was strictly due to Khumalo’s health and not related to security or procedural concerns.

Khumalo, like other high-profile witnesses, had taken precautions by bringing his own beverages to the hearing.

During his testimony on Tuesday, he presented a series of WhatsApp messages between businessmen Brown Mogotsi and Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, which allegedly showed Mogotsi pressuring Matlala to fund political memberships in two regions.

The messages reportedly shed light on the alleged criminal syndicate’s penetration of the political sphere, particularly within the ANC.
