The fate of Sandton businessman, Katiso “KT” Molefe, accused of orchestrating the murder of musician Oupa “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka, will be decided next Wednesday when the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court delivers its bail judgment.

Molefe appeared in court on Thursday facing charges linked to the November 2022 shooting in Woodmead, which also claimed the lives of two of DJ Sumbody’s bodyguards.

He joins three co-accused: Michael Pule Tau, Tiego Floyd Mabusela, and Musa Kekana. The group is also implicated in the March 2022 murder of Hector “DJ Vintos” Buthelezi, a close friend of DJ Sumbody.

During the bail hearing, the State presented cellphone and WhatsApp records allegedly linking Molefe to the suspected hitmen.

According to investigating officer, Hlengiwe Mbele, the accused exchanged messages shortly after the murder, reportedly discussing payment from Molefe.

The State opposes bail, arguing that releasing the accused could put witnesses’ lives at risk. Bodyguards have reportedly been assigned to protect investigating officers involved in the case.

Through his lawyer, Micheal Hellen, Molefe defended his relationship with co-accused Michael Pule Tau, a former police officer, saying they have been friends since childhood and that family ties could explain any communications.

Hellens argued that Molefe meets bail requirements and has demonstrated he will not interfere with the investigation.

Meanwhile, state prosecutor Khethokwakhe Ngubane told the court Molefe was preparing to leave for Hong Kong when he was arrested.

The 61-year-old businessman will remain in custody until the court hands down its decision next Wednesday.
