The four men accused of killing DJ Sumbody and his two bodyguards have now been linked to a wider web of violent crimes, with police confirming that the firearms used in the murder, have been connected to at least 10 other high-profile cases.

The suspects, Michael Pule Tau, Floyd Mabusela, Musa Kekana and Katiso Molefe, made their first appearance at the Alexandra Magistrates Court under heavy police guard on Tuesday.

They face charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the November 2022 assassination of the ‘Monate Mpolaye’ hitmaker , who was gunned down in a hail of bullets in Woodmead, Johannesburg.

The case was postponed to next week Tuesday, after the state informed the court that it had obtained new evidence that requires further investigation.

Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, speaking outside court revealed that ballistic analysis had connected the firearms to other cases, including the shocking murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.

Authorities say the same group is behind the brazen 2023 murder of Swart, who was shot 23 times in what’s believed to have been a mistaken identity hit.

Swart, who was working at Q Tech Engineering Company was killed when they mistook him for another employee who is a whistleblower.

Mathe also revealed that the suspects arrested in the Swart case are the same suspects arrested in connection to the DJ Sumbody murder case.

She says that the two of the alleged hitmen have been linked to the attempted murder of socialite Tebogo Thobejane.

In a new development, a fifth accused, Nthabiseng Zama, was also added to the attempted murder case involving Thobejane.

The 23-year-old, who is believed to be the daughter of one of the four accused in DJ Sumbody’s case, also appeared in the same court on Tuesday and has been charged with money laundering related to the alleged plot.

Zama who remains in custody, will also be back in court next Tuesday for a formal bail hearing, with the state recommending R10 000 bail and confirming it would not oppose her release.

Her case will be joined with that of her father, as prosecutors build a case, which police say it involves a coordinated criminal syndicate responsible for multiple contract killings.

Authorities say more arrests could follow as they untangle the full extent of the operation’s of the alleged syndicate.
