The Sisulu Foundation for Social Justice has slammed Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni’s recent explosive claims that South Africa’s security services have detected potential coup risks as irresponsible, dangerous, and borderline fearmongering.
Ntshavheni made the remarks during a media briefing this week after tabling the State Security Agency’s budget vote in the National Assembly.
She revealed that the security cluster had identified a risk of an attempt to overthrow the government, but government is monitoring those behind the plan.
The Sisulu Foundation says Ntshavheni’s claims could be ploy to deflect President Cyril Ramaphosa’s handling of the police crisis from public scrutiny.
The foundation believes that presenting such claims without evidence is reckless and careless.
The Sisulu foundation has also accused government of leading by gaslighting its citizens, saying it shows continued disrespect for the South African people.
It believes that the coup claims were concorted after the KwaZulu-Natal police boss, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, accused high-ranking police officers and Minister, Senzo Mchunu, of suppressing forensic investigations.

Deputy Defence Minister, Bantu Holomisa, on the other hand believes that South Africa’s military will be able to defend the nation should the need arise.
