The mother of 9-year-old Gomolemo Mavimbela, who was killed in an accident allegedly caused by soccer star Shaune Mogaila, says she’s tired of the delays in the case against him.

Keo Mavimbela has taken her quest for justice to AfriForum’s Private Prosecution’s desk.

Last year in October, Mavimbela was driving her daughter and another child, 13-year-old Thando Khethiwa, to school when the Mogaila crashed into them.

According to reports, alcohol bottles were found in the PSL player’s car.

It’s alleged that Sekhukhune United Football Club paid at least R40 000 to Mavimbela’s family as a contribution towards her daughter’s funeral.

Despite this, however, the grieving mother says justice needs to be served.

She says she suspects that Mogaila, who is out on R20 000 bail, is receiving special treatment as the case has faced continued delays.

The footballer has been charged with reckless and negligent driving as well as fleeing the scene of an accident.

It’s been nine months since that fateful morning.

“The trauma caused by this lingering case remains unhealthy for the victims, and our instructions are to not only obtain a status update but also to ensure that justice is served. To that end, we offer both our assistance and that of our client to ensure that the matter is postponed for trial and concluded without further undue delay,” says the Head of AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit, advocate Gerrie Nel.
