Sekhukhune United head coach, Lehlohonolo Seema, has lifted the lid on the return of midfielder, Shaun Mogaila, to competitive action after a four-month absence as he is involved in a culpable homicide case.
The 29-year-old is on trial for alleged reckless and negligent driving as well as fleeing the scene of a fatal car accident that claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl in Tembisa, which left two others seriously injured in October last year.
He was released on bail and his case was postponed to May for further investigations after he made his second appearance in a Tembisa court two weeks ago.
Mogaila played a full 90 minutes in Sekhukhune’s 4-2 over AmaZulu on Wednesday night in Polokwane.
Speaking to the media after the game, Seema explained the reason behind Mogaila’s fielding.
“He is a player that has been registered to us and, of course, he had an unfortunate incident that happened and the team gave him support and time to deal with it,” he replied. “And now he’s back, and we are happy with the first game after a long time and we are happy with the contribution that he did. And yeah, look, he is the player that we know.”
The Sekhukhune United head coach cautions against people being hard on the 29-year-old.
“It was very unfortunate (the accident), it can happen to anyone of us but he needed support he needed time of which he was given time. Now it’s time for him to go back and then try also to clear his mind with something that he is doing he’s liking and let’s see. I’m happy with the performance after a long time the way he came,” added Seema.
