Former secretary-general of the MK Party, Floyd Shivambu, says forming a political party should not be a family project as he mulls over forming a new organisation.
While Shivambu maintains that he remains a member of the MK Party, he says former president Jacob Zuma is surrounded by political scoundrels.
In the highly anticipated media briefing this afternoon, the politician announced that he will over the next few months consult high profile figures on the viability of forming a new political party.
Shivambu says this will include talks with traditional, religious leaders and business heads, with Patrice Motsepe and football bosses Dr Irvin Khoza and Dr Kaizer Motaung among those he aims to seek counsel from.
He says he does not regret joining the MK Party, reiterating that it was the best decision he has ever made.
“I have learned more in the six months as a member of the MK (P) than I learned when I was the deputy president of the EFF in terms of real politics.”
He has made it clear that he will not be joining the ANC or EFF.
“A substantial number of people said don’t ever try to join the ANC and I fully agree with them, that whoever joins the ANC is directionless. There are those who said don’t ever rejoin the EFF, it’s a cult, and I agree with them, there is no space for sound ideological reasoning.”
Shivambu was demoted as the party’s secretary-general last month – a move that he claims was fueled by what he dubbed a fake intelligence report that suggested he wanted to remove Zuma as the party leader.
He alleges that there are members in the party who take advantage of Zuma because of his age and fragility.
Shivambu says the party risks deregistration due to unauthorised withdrawals of money.
He claims that about R700 million is withdrawn every month from organisational coffers.
