Matthew Lani strikes again

Self-proclaimed doctor, Matthew Lani, says he will be representing himself in his case against the Gauteng Department of Education for defamation.

Lani first came into the spotlight after he pretended to be a medical doctor on social media, wearing scrubs while in hospital.

He also ditched out medical advise to his TikTok followers and sold medication, which he said, after his arrest for impersonating a medical doctor, was herbal tea and weight-loss pills

After the NPA dropped its case against him due to the lack of evidence to successfully prosecute the 26-year-old, the TikToker apologised to the nation.

Now, he has come out of the woodwork threatening to sue the education authorities.

In legal papers filed at the Johannesburg High Court, Lani claims that the department’s public statement that he was a bogus doctor, who had masqueraded as a medical professional without a matric certificate, were false and have caused serious harm to his dignity and reputation.

He rubbishes GDE’s claims that they had no record of him obtaining a matric certificate as false.

Lani says the department left out some information about his academic history.
