The news of the imminent international retirement of Banyana Banyana veteran, Jermaine Seoposenwe, has sent shockwaves through the South African football fraternity.
In a social media post on Monday night, the 2022 WAFCON winner wrote that it had become more evident that leaving the national team is the best decision for her well-being.
She says the move has been on her mind for a while.
The news comes just shortly after another stalwart, Thembi Kgatlana, ruled herself out of WAFCON contention, citing personal reasons.
Former Banyana captain, Simphiwe Dludlu, quoted the post on X, calling it a “hard one to swallow”.
Hard one to swallowđź’”. Played with her at age 17 and she was running us down as defenders. Never apologetic about who she is and what she stands for… Top player with top pass and top goals. Will definitely miss you Maine❤⚽ https://t.co/JBis7KMvwQ
