Bafana Bafana got their 2025 COSAFA Cup campaign off to the worst start after going down 1-0 against Mozambique in Bloemfontein.
The only goal of the game was scored in the 75th minute when the Mambas’ Antonio Sumbane found the back of the net at the Free State Stadium.
Bafana dominated proceedings from the beginning and squandered chances to deliver the first blow.
Mozambique eventually made the hosts pay when Sumbane slotted home a rebound after goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa parried the ball.
Bafana were given a penalty with 10 minutes remaining, but the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) came into effect and the decision was overturned leaving the home side to rue their opportunities.
Bafana’s next encounter in group A will be on Saturday when they take on Zimbabwe. Written by Ntsako Mkhari
