Floyd Shivambu’s future in the MK Party under scrutiny

The MK Party’s (MKP) decision to demote Floyd Shivambu has come under intense scrutiny, with many saying his political fate in the party may be sealed any moment.

Yesterday, the organisation announced that Shivambu would no longer serve as secretary-general and has been redeployed to the National Assembly as an ordinary Member of Parliament (MP).

The move is over his recent visit to the church of fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri in Malawi, which is said to have been in violation of the party’s constitution.

This despite Shivambu recently insinuating that party leader, Jacob Zuma, knew about the trip during an interview with independent television news channel, Newzroom Afrika.

Politician and activist, Anele Mda, has dismissed the reason for the former EFF deputy president’s demotion as petty, suggesting that it masks deeper internal divisions.

“The Malawi issue became an excuse for Zuma and his cabal and Duduzile’s faction to remove Floyd. They had nothing, because politically they could not challenge Floyd, he was shaping the discourse of MK, was building MK, putting political character.”

Mda is adamant that the MK Party had no direction before Shivambu’s arrival.

The former deputy president of the EFF joined the MK Party in August last year, in a move that shocked many and left his former red berets comrades shuttered.

Mda also took a jab at Zuma accusing him of failing as a leader, while mocking the party’s “Gwaza Mkhonto” slogan.

“The tools of war in this day and age are intelligence.”

Political analyst, Professor Sam Koma, says the MKP’s decision speaks volumes.

He suggests that Shivambu was never fully embraced by the party’s leadership.

Koma believes the tensions surrounding Shivambu may also stem from his close ties to party leader, Zuma.

EFF leader, Julius Malema, says he’s not fazed by Shivambu’s return to parliament, also watering down his demotion, asking where he was going in the first place.

“Parliament is run by young people now and if he thinks he can come there and impose himself on them, they are already ready for him. He cannot do anything that will undermine the superior logic of the EFF,” he added.

ANC secretary general, Fikile Mbalula, also entered the fray – saying Zuma used the same constitution Shivambu drafted to remove him.

Floyd Shivambu is gifted with power and aura in the same way that Zuma is,the mere mention of his name sends many into a frenzy and as a MKP SG he was bound to to grow the party ten fold but they’ve fumbled that opportunity now 😏.

I don’t think Floyd Shivambu’s removal as Secretary General has tribalistic undertones,otherwise,Chief Whip,Colleen Makhubele,would n’t have made it.Shivambu was failed by a non-democratic process,as MK Party hierarchy is never voted into office,but appointed,at a whim
