Pressure is mounting on podcast host, Macgyver “MacG” Mukwevho, to issue an apology to media personality, Minnie Dlamini, following degrading comments he made against her on his platform.

In the controversial episode that has sparked outrage, MacG was heard making disparaging remarks about Minnie’s hygiene on Podcast and Chill.

MacG, who is no stranger to the headlines, can be heard taking a swipe at Minnie’s relationship history.

“Why can’t she keep a man? Bro, I’m telling you, man, there’s got to be something wrong with her; maybe her coochie smells or something. You know this happens, man; it happens, especially with the hot girls,” Mukwevho said.

Advocacy group, Women For Change, says MacG’s comments are not only vile and dehumanising but also reflect the deeply rooted toxic masculinity that continues to endanger and humiliate women in South Africa.
“MacG’s podcast has consistently promoted harmful narratives disguised as entertainment, spreading sexual innuendos, encouraging victim-blaming, and perpetuating blatant misogyny.”
The organisation has labelled MacG’s podcast as dangerous, saying it promotes a culture that sees women as objects, particularly in a nation already facing a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) epidemic.
“The continued support and monetisation of this content is a shameful reflection of how little brands value the dignity, safety, and humanity of women in this country. “
Parliament’s portfolio committee on communications has also raised concern over the unregulated rise of podcasts, saying that a legal void may allow bad content to spread unchecked.
Committee chairperson, Khusela Diko, says podcasts have a massive reach, with over three million people in the country listening to them on a weekly basis.
She says MagG’s comments have brought podcasts under scrutiny.
Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Letsike, has also jumped on the bandwagon and summoned podcast host MacG to Parliament.

The Deputy Minister says MacG’s comments should be considered an unconstitutional violation of Minnie’s rights to freedom and security.

Letsike’s assertions have, however, not landed well with the podcaster’s supporters, with some of them accusing the Deputy Minister of misdirected priorities.

Many cited Cwecwe’s rape case and the ongoing trauma faced by victims of televangelist, Timothy Omotoso after his acquittal as more urgent matters deserving the politician’s attention.

As the debate rages on over his foul mouth, MacG has previously defended his controversial remarks, claiming that no one can cancel him.
