Political analyst, Professor Sam Koma, says Donald Trump bit off more than he could chew when he unleashed a global tariff war.
While many were still dissecting and digesting his decision to implement a 90-day pause on tariffs against various countries who did not retaliate to Washington’s provocative tariff hikes, he has now made an about turn on China.
Following an American initiated tit-for-tat battle with Beijing, he’s now indicated a potential change in stance, admitting that the 145% tariffs he imposed on China were a bit too high.
The US President told journalists that it will come down substantially if China cooperates.
His remarks were in response to a question on the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s assertions that the trade war between Washington and Beijing had put an embargo on trade between the world’s two largest economies.

Speaking to YNews, Professor Koma says Trump’s administration had misread the economical power that China has and probably regained its senses when it failed to force China to bow to the US, which is the world’s largest economy.
Trump’s change in tune also comes shorty after the International Monetary Fund this week slashed its 2025 growth forecast from 3.3% to 2.8% due to the tariff battle between the two nations.
Economist, Dawie Roodt, says Trump’s actions have made the global economy unstable and uncertain, which is concerning.

China has now called on the US to cancel its tariffs on Chinese goods as proof that President Trump is serious about resolving the trade war.
According to a Chinese official, no talks have taken place with Washington so far, despite claims from the Trump administration that they have been in contact.
The world is now embroiled in a waiting game, keen to see if the two countries will find each other and end the economic battle, which economic players say has disrupted global supply chains, slowed global economic growth and forced international businesses to adapt to new realities.

The waiting game comes as the US President’s popularity dwindles, at home, by the minute.
According to results from various polls, including one by the Pew Research Centre, many Americans have lost confidence in Trump over his handling of major issues like the economy.
They believe that, compared to the Biden administration, the Trump administration’s policies have weakened the US economy.
Some say Trump’s policies have placed the US in a weaker political position, internationally.

China has all the cards in this game. Trump his bullying strategy has totally backfired. The US is going to loose big time if they do not meet the Chinese demands.

Low commodities prices also helps explain why China is happy to let Trump trade-war as long as he chooses. They know it hurts the US more, and as competent bad guys fighting incompetent bad guys, they’re even getting the world’s sympathy.https://t.co/3IzEAt7hWX
