Orlando Pirates have confirmed that head coach, Jose Riveiro, will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract ends.

The club made the announcement in a statement on Thursday afternoon after the Spanish mentor officially communicated to management that he will not renew his contract.

Riveiro joined the club in 2022, winning five domestic titles since his arrival, and remains in contest for the league, Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League for the remainder of his stay.

“His professionalism and commitment to the Club’s best interests prompted a timely announcement, ensuring business as usual for the remainder of the season while simultaneously creating an opportunity for the Club to prepare for the future,” the club statement read.

“In accordance with the coach’s wishes, the Club will refrain from making detailed pronouncements at this time, reserving comprehensive tributes for a more appropriate occasion.”

Pirates squad returned from Algeria this morning after their 1-0 win over MC Alger in their first leg Champions League quarter-final and will take on Polokwane City on Saturday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo. Written by Ntsako Mkhari
