Zakhithi Ndaba’s sister, Nokubonga, alleges that her self-confessed killer murdered someone before.
She says he has also allegedly raped.
The 27-year-old’s sister was pouring her heart out after Aviwe Poswa was granted R5 000 bail at the Alexandra Magistrates Court.
“I am lost right now. I lost a part of me that I can never have again,” she says in a Facebook live.
Phosa (29) admitted in his affidavit that he mistakenly shot Ndaba in the head following an altercation with her earlier this month.
He handed himself over to authorities just over a week after an intense manhunt was launched for his head.
Ndaba says Phoswa has bribed his way out of the justice system, alleging that dockets to his previous crimes dissappeared without trace.
She alleges that his mom, who is said to be a medical doctor, is the one who is funding his sheninagans.
“She tried buying him a bus ticket to Mozambique but because of the trash bag that he is, he drank the money and used substances and then handed himself to the police.”
Ndaba believes that he was granted bail because of his family’s influence.
She’s also questioned Poswa’s version that he murdered her sister by mistake.
“After he unalived her, he used a towel so that her blood doesn’t sip through. He took her car; there’s visuals of him taking her car.”
Ndaba says she’s speaking out with hopes that Poswa will be stopped in his tracks.
“Because if he’s done it so many times, he’s likely to do it again. I am asking you please. Can we stop this man, he is not a man because a man don’t do what he did. You don’t unalive the mother of your child,” she adds.
The grieving sibling alleges that Poswa has been abusing her sister and has previously threatened to take their child away from her.
Ndaba’s body was discovered in the couple’s residential apartment – locked inside.
The court heard that Poswa fled to KwaMashu with Ndaba’s vehicle, which he removed the tracking device from, to evade detection.
Ndaba’s mother says she grew suspicious of her daughter’s well-being after finding out that her car tracking device was removed in KwaZulu-Natal, to which she alerted the police who discovered her deceased.
The state also revealed that Poswa fabricated a fib to Ndaba’s mother on the phone that she was asleep at their apartment while he was out – when he knew too well that he had murdered her.
Poswa’s defense argued that he deserves bail because he handed himself and that he has no record of past convictions or domestic violence.
Ndaba’s best friend, Manana Potsana, like her sister – begs to differ with this claim.
She says the late chef’s love for him is the only reason he has never been brought to book.
“I’m a colleague and friend of Zakithi’s; we’ve known each other for a while, and I know their history of abuse. My friend has always been afraid to go to the police because she loved him dearly and that is the only reason he doesn’t have a case with the police,” says Potsana.
She says the justice system is failing them and that Poswa’s bail amount doesn’t come close to the value of Zakithi’s life.
“We feel like justice honestly has defeated us at this point because they granted him bail. No amount would be worthy honestly and I am so disappointed that it’s literally R 5 000 and a whole life was taken,” remarks Potsana.
She alleges that Poswa doesn’t seem regretful of his actions and the Ndaba’s family is fearing for their own lives.
“He shows no remorse. The family does not feel safe; they feel he is a liar, especially after knowing that he told Zakithi’s mom that she was sleeping, knowing very well that he just murdered someone,” says Potsana.
The atmosphere was thick with grief and fury among Ndaba’s loved ones, with some of her collegues hell-bent on ensuring conviction for her partner.
Some of her colleagues, like Tshepang Matile and Thokozane Hlongwane, believe Poswa should be given the death sentence.
“He deserves a death sentence. He must rot in jail. No bail for him,” says Hlongwane.
“I don’t think he must go to jail. This guy deserves a death sentence. He doesn’t deserve jail time guys, for real,” adds Matile.
Emotions were running wild among Ndaba’s beloved following the adjournment of today’s court sitting, with some spewing threats towards Poswa as he exited the court.
“We will find you in Pretoria,” shouted some of the them.
Zakithi’s other sister, Nombuso, was seen crying uncontrollably, expressing her distrust over Poswa’s claims that he is not a flight risk.
“They are clowning us. How can we trust that he won’t run away again?,” Zakithi’s sister said while crying.
The court has ordered Poswa to stay at his sister’s place in Pretoria while he undergoes trial. He also has to report to the nearest police station every Friday, while the three-year-old daughter he shares with Zakithi stays with her maternal grandparent. Written by Odirile Rabolao
