The EFF is calling on South Africans to support the Student Debt Relief Bill that’s aimed at cancelling student debt.

The draft bill is open for public comment until the end of this month.
The party’s call comes just weeks after some institutions of higher learning across the country were rocked by student protests over accommodation and historic debt.
According to the EFF student command president, Sihle Lonzi, if approved –  the bill will assist roughly 300 000 students who have been unable to graduate or get jobs.
Lonzi told Y’s sister channel, eNCA, that the way the system is set up  – students can’t get jobs to pay off their debt as the institutions are withholding them.
The bill could assist Wits post graduate students like Siviwe Mafuna and Feziwe Ndwayana, who were recently on hunger strike for more than 10 days in a push for them and their peers to be allowed to register regardless of their historical debt.
@briggy046 EFFSC❤️🖤💚, I salute you! Your courage and determination in standing up for unregistered students is truly inspiring. The peaceful strike is a testament to your commitment to fighting for what’s right. Keep pushing forward! #witsuniversity #strike #effsc♥️💚🖤 #fyp@effscwits ♬ original sound – B🌸.
