Former Bafana Bafana striker, Benni McCarthy, has been unveiled as the new coach of the Kenyan national team.

McCarthy will have to hit the ground running as his first assignment will be later this month with an away match against Gambia, which will be followed by a home clash with Gabon in qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Kenya trail leaders Ivory Coast by five points in World Cup qualifying Group F but have six matches to play.

The group winners qualify for the finals with the four best runners-up having the chance to progress via a second round.

McCarthy’s last job was at European giants, Manchester United, for two seasons under manager Erik ten Hag, working as a coach for the strikers.

His previous managerial experience has been at Cape Town City and AmaZulu. Written by Ntsako Mkhari
