The family of slain EMPD officer, Banele Skosana, says they were never fond of his relationship with his alleged killer wife.

The 42-year-old woman, Sibongile Dlamini, appeared before the Spring’s Magistrate Court today, where her matter was rolled over to Friday for possible bail application.

Dlamini was arrested on Friday, a day before her husband’s funeral.

Skosana was shot and killed by two men while opening his tuck shop in KwaThema, in Ekurhuleni, earlier this month – two months after he paid lobola for her.

It is alleged that the hitmen confessed to the killing, which they claim was orchestrated by his wife.

The late 32-year-old’s brother, Lunga, says are not shocked as their relationship showed some signs of abuse.

He says he wishes he had acted earlier when his now-deceased brother expressed his desire for them to have a conversation.

He says it’s sad to see someone whom they welcomed into the family with open arms as the person who is alleged to be behind the murder of their loved one.

“It is very hurtful to see what is happening here,” he says.

“Honestly, we took it very lightly, even though our brother would have that thing of ‘we need to talk’, because that’s what he usually used to say to us. We took it as a quarrel between a wife and a husband so we did not suspect it would end the way it did,” adds Lunga.

Skosana’s cousin, Sindi, says their brother was previously poisoned and was recovering from that incident when he was killed.

She says the family was not happy when Banele decided to marry the accused, adding that she told her brother to leave the toxic relationship.

The Skosanas want the court to deny the accused bail.

Below is a video of the wife allegedly putting on a show at Skosana’s memorial service on Thursday, a day before she was arrested.
