Cross-examination into allegations of sexual harassment against Eastern Cape Judge President, Selby Mbenenge, continues at the Judicial Conduct Tribunal in Johannesburg.
High Court secretary, Andiswa Mengo, is accusing the judge of sending her sexual messages and images, which she found disturbing and disgusting.
She says they also made her uncomfortable.
Mbenenge’s advocate, Muzi Sikhakane, has spent the past few days trying to discredit Mengo’s claims.
Yesterday, Sikhakhane put it to the panel that Mengo had multiple opportunities to halt the judge’s advances but opted not to do so.
He also rubbished claims that Mbenenge sent the secretary a picture of his private parts and says his assertions will be proven by experts.
Mengo was nonchalant in her response for him to go ahead, telling the chairperson of the tribunal that she won’t dispute Skhakhane’s assertions nor intent.
She remains adamant that she did not appreciate the messages or the judge’s advances and was at a disadvantage due to the judge’s authority in their workplace.
She has also admitted that she left out some messages that she had sent in her formal complaint. Written by Ntsako Mkhari
