Technology expert, Priyanka Raath, says the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is getting more advanced and people can be easily fooled.

Her remarks come after a video purporting to be that of convicted US singer, Robert Kelly, popularly called R. Kelly, went viral on social media.

It shows different scenes from a prison; a courtroom with a man that is said to be the singer playing the piano and singing for his fellow jail mates.

It has garnered over 2.1 million views, with more than 22,000 likes, over 10 000 bookmarks, plus over 10 000 reposts and more than 1 800 comments on X.

On YouTube, two videos of different songs have now been posted with thousands of views. The new song, “Please Forgive Me”, was posted 4 days ago and has over 100 000 views.

Speaking to YNews, Raath a Senior Associate at ENS in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications, says it has become so easy to generate convincing content to put on the internet.

R. Kelly, an American singer, songwriter and producer, is jailed for 30 years for sex trafficking and  racketeering in a New York court.

Months later, he was convicted of child sexual abuse in a second federal trial in Chicago.

Raath says it’s getting difficult to be able to decipher if content is real and authentic.

She says people need to look at certain elements in content that could be out of place adding that it’s important for people to check their sources.

There some inconsistencies in the video as the voice used does not sound like R.Kelly and even the movement of the body when walking, talking, and hand gesticulations of all the characters, it doesn’t look realistic.

The inscription on the back of the uniform changed from R.Kelly to Kelly during the video and the main character definitely doesn’t look like the convicted star.

Despite this, howeer, Raath believes there’s hope.

He also spoke on how dangerous AI can get, despite the cancellation of your classes, there some benefits to it.

Recently, a French woman was conned R15 million by scammers posing as actor, Brad Pitt.

Despite this, the 53-year-old interior designer, Anne, says he thought he was in a relationship with Pitt for a year and a half and lost her life savings to the scam.

However, a representative for Pitt expressed concern at how people can take advantage of fans’ strong connection with celebrities.

Speaking to YNews, Raath says even though there are some risks to using AI, there are benefits too.

She says AI tools such as ChatGPT have become popular and can be used in a good and responsible way.

Some users couldn’t figure out that it’s not R.Kelly in the video whilst some caught it.
