Veteran Orlando Pirates midfielder, Makhehleni Makhaula, has opened up about the role he plays in the Buccaneers’ dressing room.
Several of his teammates have spoken out about the 35-year old’s influence and the impact his experience has had on the relatively inexperienced squad. Makhaula joined Pirates in 2023 after years of captaining AmaZulu and his leadership qualities have also shone through at the Soweto giants.
“The role that I have is big. It’s speaking to the young boys, encouraging them, telling them not to drop their heads when they make mistakes,” he explains.
Makhaula was also one of the first people to reach out to Patrick Maswanganyi after he missed a penalty in Pirates 1-0 loss against Cape Town City on Wednesday night.
