Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, hopes that his achievements can be a source of inspiration for South Africans.
He was named the Men’s Interclub Player of the Year and Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year at the CAF Awards in Morocco last night.
Despite missing out on the Player of the Year crown to Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, Williams was one of the big winners on the night and wraps up a dream 2024 in style.
On top of winning the CAF Interclub Player of the Year and Men’s Goalkeeper of the year, Williams has been named AFCON’s best keeper, the PSL Footballer of the Season, COSAFA Men’s Keeper of the Year and most notably, he became the first ever South African to be nominated for a Ballon d’Or Award.
With his teams, he captained Bafana to third place at AFCON 2023; he also aided Sundowns to a record seventh straight Betway Premiership Title and a first African Football League trophy for the club.
In his address in Marrakesh, Williams appreciated the support system that has helped him scale such sensational heights and reminded South Africans that anything is possible.
