South Africans have been advised to keep hydrated and stay indoors as the long and blazing week takes shape.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a heatwave alert for seven provinces, namely Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Free State, Northern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
The persistent hot weather conditions are expected to last until Friday.
Weather forecaster, Lehlohonolo Thobela, says the public should avoid staying in the sun to prevent heat stroke.
“We advise the public to keep hydrated and if it’s unnecessary to go outdoors rather stay inside. If you are forced to go outdoors, make sure you take breaks and drink a lot of liquids.”
The weather service has also warned of possible thunderstorms in the evening in parts of KZN, Mpumalanga, and the southeastern parts of Limpopo.
