Civil society organisation, #NotInMyName International, is urging South African Football Association (Safa) President, Danny Jordaan, to step down as a case against him is expected to start this Wednesday in the Palm Ridge Specialised Crimes Court.
Jordaan is accused of fraud and theft, as well as using Safa funds to hire a communications company to manage his image after former ANC MP, Jennifer Ferguson, accused him of rape in 2017.
“Finally, the Hawks, have decided to make sure that this case needs to be ventilated in a court of law and on Wednesday they’ll be appearing in court, and there’s probably more charges that are going to be added there. We are glad that this issue is finally going to court, but we are saying that while this is happening, we are urging the President of SAFA Mr Jordaan, to step down until the resolution of criminal charges against him is over,” says #NotInMyName Co-founder and Secretary-General, Themba Masango.
Masango also called on Sport, Arts and Culture Minister, Gayton Mackenzie, to support Jordaan in stepping down.
“South Africa needs to have a clean governing body of Safa,” adds #NotInMyName Co-founder and Secretary-General. Written by Ntsako Mkhari
