Expelled EFF Student Command member, Kganki Mphahlele, says his expulsion is less about ideological differences but more about a vendetta waged by the party’s president.

In a letter from the Student Command’s acting secretary, Mphahlele is accused of publicly insulting and defaming the EFF and its leaders.

It is alleged that he used his social media account to bring the organisation into disrepute.

The second-year student at the University of Limpopo says that while he deems his expulsion unfair, he decided to surrender after an online spat with Julius Malema, allegedly sparked by the call for Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi to replace Floyd Shivambu as the Deputy President.

He called on Malema to not impose Godrich Gardee for the position, saying that’s what the branches want.

Mphalele says his personal security has been threatened.

“We are going to succumb because we are now aware that the matter is too big, and we have been advised at home to simply stay away from the EFF. We are going to do that to avoid further clashes. We don’t want to force ourselves on a party that doesn’t want us.”

This comes ahead of the EFF’s highly anticipated elective conference in December, where a new leadership will be elected.

The party has seen several high-profile members leave for the MK Party.

Deputy president and co-founder, Floyd Shivambu, opened the door in August when he walked away from his brainchild. He was followed by Mzwanele Manyi and Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

Many have hailed Mphahlele as brave for standing his ground and being a voice for the branches which ultimately are the core constituencies of political parties.

The Political Science student says he has been approached by a number of political parties, including the ANC, DA, ActionSA and MK Party. However, he says, he has not yet decided, and he doesn’t want to rush into things.
