A video of a grown woman French kissing a child, which has gone viral on social media, has sparked the ire of many South Africans who are calling for more to be done to protect children.
Child Rights groups say the video, which first surfaced on digital platforms in 2020, is a clear indication of sexual grooming, which should not be normalised.
The Sexual Offences and Related Matters Act outlaws any sexual act with a minor, both penetrative and non-penetrative.
While many have called for the arrest of the woman involved, a source who works with children’s cases verified the video with the Gauteng Family Child and Sexual Offences Unit on behalf of YNews, who in turn sent it to the national crime intelligence officials.
According to the officials, she was arrested for child abuse the same year the recording first surfaced.
They are, however, yet to provide feedback of how the case penned out.
The authorities and child rights groups have also expressed concern over the face of the child that’s all-over social media as South Africans continue to express disgust.
Speaking to YNews, Soul City CEO, Phinah Kodisang, says such behaviour is unacceptable.
Responding to the blood curdling incident, one social media user expressed relief that digital platforms are now exposing things that have long been happening behind closed doors.
My older sister would do this to me every night while we were still kids, I didn’t have the capacity to understand the full implications of this. Growing up, I lusted over her, my teenage years were filled with me longing for her, I feel sick and disgusted by my desire for her.

Most boys have been sexually harrased in a way. When I was around 8 my neighbour would do this to me and let me touch her cookie. She was probably 6 years older than me
