The relatives of the man who allegedly killed five of his relatives in Bergville, Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN), say his mother coddled him beyond reproach.
Mlamuli Khoza is accused of stabbing to death members of his family, including a disabled relative and two children aged two and eight.
His mother is among the survivors of his bloody spree. He allegedly stabbed her first and a four-year-old girl. The two survived with multiple stab wounds, whilst Khoza’s sister managed to escape unscathed with a 1-year-old child.
It is understood that the stabbing spree began after the suspect had an argument with his mother upon his return from visiting a relative with his uncle.
Khoza made his second court appearance today and is facing five charges of murder and two of attempted murder.
Family member, Xolani Mhlanga, says he is a danger to society and must be kept behind bars.
Mhlanga says they’ve had enough of the 28-year-old, who he says, was always being defended by his mother, saying he is a child without a father.
The 28-year-old will be back in court next week Wednesday for bail application.
This is not the first time Khoza has had a brush with the law.
According to his relatives, several domestic violence cases were previously opened against him. They were, however, withdrawn after his mother’s intervention.
The family also suspects that Mlamuli was sexually abusing one of his victims, who was disabled.
Evelyn Mhlanga believes that he was trying to cover up his crime by killing his relatives.
Khoza’s other relative, Xolani, says there’s more to this incident than what meets the eye.
The CEO of non-profit organisation, Soul City, says parents need to realise that encouraging or turning a blind eye to their children’s adverse actions could become a bigger problem in the future.
Phinah Kodisang is urging parents to play a bigger role in ensuring that their children are better citizens and to report them to authorities whenever they break the country’s laws.
Social media is also abuzz on the matter.
