Award winning artist, Chris Brown, has hit back at naysayers, who want him banned from performing in South Africa.

The “Kiss Kiss” hitmaker took to Instagram to respond to a Women for Change petition, which is calling for a boycott of his much-anticipated concert.

The anti-GBV organisation believes supporting Brown is in bad taste for the country that is grappling with a gender-based violence and femicide crisis.

According to the police stats, murders of women increased 7.9% to 966 during the first quarter of this year, while attempted murders went up by 16% to 1 644, and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) rose by 69% to 13 757 incidents.

โ€œHis concert is scheduled just days after the global commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, making this event a direct insult to the millions of women and girls affected by violence in South Africa and worldwide,โ€ reads Women for Change’s petition that’s so far garnered over 28 000 signatures.

Chris Brown’s concert will be at the FNB Stadium on the 14th and 15th of December, with his fans eager to enjoy the performance of a global music icon, they say admitted his crime and did the time for it.

The heartthrob was convicted for assaulting his then pop star girlfriend, Rihanna, in 2009.

He served up to five years of supervised probation and six months of community service.

His fans’ sentiments are in line with South African laws, which are founded on a system of corrections grounded on human rights.
