Non-Profit Organisation, Women and Men Against Child Abuse, says laws to compel parents to report abuse are needed in the country.

The organisation also believes that parents should be threatened with sanction if they don’t report child abuse.

It has joined South Africans who are calling for the safe return of 6-year-old, Eva Tembo.

Tembo is said to have been kidnapped by her mother’s employer, Carlos Rebelo, almost four months ago.

According to news agency-News24, Rebelo contacted them, and outlined conditions for the return of the child.

He reportedly wants a children’s court decision, which overturned a ruling that had granted her custody of the child set aside, among others.

Rebelo apparently kidnapped the six-year-old after her mother told him that she wanted to visit her home country of Malawi with Eva.

The 72-year-old’s daughter, Susan Kennedy, is among those who are appealing for Eva’s return.

She accuses her father of having abused her when she was young.

Kennedy also revealed that Eva’s mother had told her that she was scared of Rebelo due to his hot temper.

Social media users are perplexed at how the 72-year-old Rebelo was in the first place ever granted custody of the child.
