The leader of ActionSA, Herman Mashaba, says he’s determined to see his party’s councillor, Nasiphi Moya, become the new mayor of Tshwane.
His comment follows DA councillor, Cilliers Brink’s ousting as the capital city’s Executive Mayor through an ANC-sponsored motion of no confidence.
The motion garnered 120 votes in favour of Brink’s removal, with the ANC, ActionSA, and PA supporting it, while 87 other councillors voted against it.
Mashaba has been vocal about his reasons for removing Brink, citing betrayal by the DA leadership at national level following its decision to abandon the multi-party charter.

Poor service delivery in township communities and financial mismanagement have also been cited as among the reasons.
In July, the ANC withdrew the motion and refiled it later after Mashaba expressed his willingness to part ways with the DA in Tshwane.
This newfound alliance between the ANC and ActionSA has raised eyebrows, given ActionSA’s history of criticising the ANC, which the party blames for the embedded corruption in the public sector.
However, Mashaba has defended his about-turn.
He argues that he’s not the only one to have changed his stance on working with the ANC, emphasising that it’s unfair to expect ActionSA to be the exception.
The EFF has also weighed in, with the party’s Gauteng chairperson, Nkululeko Dunga, stating that Brink’s removal was partly due to his disregard for workers’ concerns.
The EFF has issued an ultimatum, refusing to collaborate with the ANC if the DA is involved.
Brink has meanwhile vowed to continue serving the residents of Tshwane from the opposition benches, slamming his ousting as an ANC attempt to regain control of the city’s finances.
