Pastor Paseka “Mboro” Motsoeneng’s bail hearing at the Palm Ridge Magistrate Court concluded on Wednesday with a postponement, amidst dwindling support from his congregants.

The once-loyal flock of supporters, who had previously camped out in large numbers outside the court, was noticeably absent.

The pastor, who leads the Incredible Happenings Church in Katlehong, is accused of violently kidnapping his grandsons from a Mabopane Primary School while wielding a panga.

He has been charged alongside his son, Revival Motsoeneng, and bodyguard, Vincent Baloyi.

Magistrate Katlego Mokoena dismissed the state’s application for her recusal.

Delivering her judgment, Magistrate Mokoena criticised the manner in which the state brought its application, adding that the state made no attempts to engage her on her alleged wrongdoing.

She emphasised that she would not allow the prosecution team to misrepresent her intentions.

The state brought the application for her recusal after accusing Magistrate Mokoena of being biased, following her alleged question to prosecutors about why they were being so hard on Mboro.

During the hearing, the defence argued that Mboro’s alleged offences did not warrant scheduled 5 status, and therefore justice permitted his release on bail.

However, the investigating officer revealed that the case was far from closed, with video footage of the disturbing incident sent to the cybercrimes’ unit for further analysis.

As the bail hearing came to a close, it was clear that Mboro’s legal woes had taken a toll on his support base.

Meanwhile, Revival Motsoeneng, the son of Pastor Mboro, has publicly defended his father, hailing him as a hero.

Speaking on a recent podcast, Revival revealed that his father had sacrificed everything to protect him and his children.

The son was released on a warning after being charged alongside his father.
