Sport Minister, Gayton McKenzie, has expressed his lack of confidence in the current leadership of the South African Football Association (SAFA) where Danny Jordaan sits at the helm.

The new Minister has seemingly hit the ground running. He says he’s on a mission to clean house and has emphasised that SAFA will not be the exception.

Earlier this year, the SAFA offices were raided by the Hawks amid fraud and theft allegations, amounting to R1.3m linked to Jordaan.

The association has also seen some of its members such as Ria Ledwaba (former Vice President) and Dennis Mumble (former CEO) accuse Jordaan of maladministration and ruling with an iron fist.

Following Bafana Bafana’s 2-2 draw on Friday night against Uganda in a 2025 AFCON Qualifier at the Orlando Stadium, McKenzie posted a picture of himself in the team’s dressing along with Jordaan and other members of the association’s top brass, where the Minister highlighted the team’s lack of a corporate sponsor.

Much of the reaction to the post was South Africans expressing their desire to have Jordaan vacate his Nasrec office.

The minister was asked if he has confidence in the Jordaan-led SAFA and he didn’t mince his words in saying that he does not.

“I don’t have full confidence cause full confidence can’t come with talk, it comes with results” the Minister said.

“The results are not the with the soccer, I’m not a man who’s impressed with words, I like action. I told Danny Jordaan that I’m giving two deliverables – qualify for AFCON and qualify for the World Cup.”

“I’m giving them all the support now, but I can’t be giving people support until kingdom come. A country like us qualifying for the World Cup? If a country can qualify for the World Cup, how come we can’t win AFCON? We can’t accept mediocrity. If they don’t qualify, we must get people that can qualify.” Written by Ntsako Mkhari
