Legendary musician and record producer, Chicco Twala, says while his son, Longwe, is a druggie and a thief – he is not a killer.
He made the remarks at the Randburg Magistrates Court, during Longwe’s first appearance on housebreaking charges after allegedly ransacking his father’s Fourways studio.
Chicco has accused his sons, Longwe and Sello, of stealing at least R200 000 worth of recording equipment from his home studio.
He was away in the US at the time of the alleged robbery.
While he has dropped charges against Sello, Longwe remains in hot water.
His has been postponed to September 12 to allow him time to secure a legal representative.
Speaking with YNews on the sidelines of the case, Chicco blamed Longwe’s drug addiction, saying he steals to sustain his habit.

The musician and record producer emphasised that he’s tired of protecting his son who, he says, has been to private rehab facilities over 30 times, in vain.
He added that he’d rather see Longwe rot in jail than continue to steal and live on the streets.
Longwe is also embroiled in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case.
The defence has fingered him as the gunman who shot and killed the soccer star during a Sunday night visit to their then girlfriends’ home in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, in 2014.
Chicco has, however, has consistently denied the 39-year-old’s involvement in the murder.
He’s accused the defence of chasing fame and attention with claims based on social media speculation, not facts. Written by Naomi Kobbie
