The tit for tat spat between Nigerians and South Africans continues to make waves on social media.
The latest banter was sparked by a video where a Nigerian man compares the naira to the rand.
The man throws shade at South Africans pointing out that even though the naira is much weaker than the rand, they are no better as most of 70% of them depend on social grants.
Stats SA estimates that 50% of South African households receive at least one social grant.
South Africans have clapped back, saying the conditions natives are living under are way better than those of Nigerians, who flock into the country looking for better opportunities.
Is not this the same Nigerians who were bribed with fake rice by government of Tinubu. pic.twitter.com/yt4mPO9Gx3

He is a typical Nigerian with their stinking attitude. Limited knowledge and generalising and undermining SAns as if it is one person

He is lying here. Who says South Africans on social grants don’t make extra money on the side? If we look at it the way he wants to put it, then every Nigerian who is unemployed is surviving on zero Naira per month.

Lol, this guy is dom, we better since our government is giving us social relief grant but than 50kg of rice (fake rice) we old age grant, disabilities grant, child grant etc this shows our economy plus GDP r stronger than Nigerian

However, in another video that’s going around, there seems to be a sentiment among a number of Nigerians that they would rather come to South Africa than stay where they are.
This has also given rise to #HeIsSouthAfrican after athlete Udeme Okon won the 400m Gold medal at the under-20 world championships in Lima, Peru, on Friday.
People took to social media, pointing out that his name sounds Nigerian.
However the 18-year-old was born and raised in SA – with a South African mother and a Nigerian father.
He has also now become a subject of ongoing conversation online on ethnicity, which began with Chidimma Adetshina partaking in the Miss South Africa pageant.
Okon says people must embrace each other no matter where they come from.
Yes he is so what? Congratulations to Udeme Okon representing and winning gold for https://t.co/tKBeHA9oPT. He is the child of a South African mother and Nigerian Father. Embrace the new diversity that https://t.co/tKBeHA9oPT has become. In 20 years max you will see more of this pic.twitter.com/mHW7HG9A8A

Even Sports, Arts and Culture Minister, Gayton McKenzie, has entered the chat on Okon.
He is a South African, legally here, didnโt steal anyoneโs identity, he is not involved in nonsense and contributes positively to South Africa., he is our golden boy ๐๐พ https://t.co/PMawxGCsCD
