South Africa mourns passing of an icon

South Africa is mourning the death of one of the country’s great actresses, philanthropist, and entrepreneur, Connie Chiume.

The 72-year-old Black Panther star and filmmaker died at a Johannesburg hospital today.
In a short statement, her family asks for privacy as it comes to terms with the loss.
The internationally acclaimed Chiume has been a household name in the South African entertainment industry for more than four decades, with extensive experience in theatre, television and film.
The multi-award-winning Welkom-born actress was also an arts activist and worked with various organisations to improve and promote African culture. She’s won multiple awards, include the SAFTA and the Hollywood Africa Prestigious accolades.
Tributes have already begun flocking in on social media for the veteran actress, whose art and skill, have captivated the attention of millions of South Africans over the years.
