International relations expert, Professor John Stremlau, says Kamala Harris is the perfect candidate to usher in a ‘new’ America.

The US vice president has been earmarked as the new Democrats leader, after President Joe Biden announced that he has decided to pull out of the Presidential race for the November 5 elections – saying it is in the best interest of his country and party.

The 81-year-old Democrat has now endorsed Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate.

This comes on the back of numerious calls for him to resign due to his health, which resulted in his dismal performance in the heated debate with his rival, Donald Trump.

Speaking to YNews, Stremlau says Harris will definitely take the country forward.

Harris seems ready for the challenge ahead.

She’s released a statement, saying she intends to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

The 59-year-old is confident she will be able to defeat Donald Trump at the polls.

“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. I am honoured to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” she says.

US Congressman, Jim Clyburn, who is one of many top Democrats who have expressed support for the former California senator.

It is understood that about 30 of the party’s 51 senators and 137 of its 188 representatives have now backed Harris, with 11 of the party’s 23 governors also having thrown their support behind her.

Even Hilary Clinton backed Harris.

Professor Stremlau says while the baton could have come prematurely, Harris can do well in the November elections.

Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, on the other hand believes Harris will be easier to beat in the upcoming elections.

Professor Stremlau says he doesn’t trust Trump to be a good leader.

Meanwhile, some world leaders have been paying tribute to Biden as he prepares for retirement.

Former US President, Barack Obama, with whom Biden served two terms as vice president, praised his successor’s record in office.
