Mzansi X users rally behind Banyana legend following hijacking

Social media users are calling on South Africans to assist Banyana Banyana legend, Portia Modise, in finding her car following a hijacking incident.

Their appeal follows the video Modise posted on X saying, ‘I’m not ok.. I was hijacked..’

Modise has also urged the public to assist with information that could lead to the recovery of the vehicle.

According to the police, the 41-year-old former Banyana Banyana captain was hijacked by the armed men outside her home in White City, Soweto, on Saturday.

She was also robbed of her cellphone.

In a statement, Gauteng police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, says they are searching for the five suspects.

“It is reported that the victim was driving out of the yard when she noticed five males in front of the gate. She asked the suspects to move so that she can drive pass. It is then that she was pointed with firearms and hijacked,” he says.

“Two of the suspects drove away with victim’s VW Golf 5, while the other three got into the VW silver Polo and sped off.”
