Numsa President, Andrew Chirwa, has vowed that workers will not return to their jobs until Ford SA agrees to negotiate.
The union is demanding that workers receive bonuses and benefit from company profits.
Addressing a mass picket, Chirwa deemed it unthinkable that workers at a multinational company like Ford are earning “peanuts”.
Over 3 000 Ford workers are protesting for a second day today after downing tools, demanding that the company share its profits.
They allege that the company made R400 billion profit last year.
They have pledged to continue the strike until their demands are met.
Yesterday, the Labour Court reserved judgment in the car manufacturer’s bid to interdict the strike.
YNews spoke with shop steward, Zandile Motha, on the sidelines of demonstrations.
She expressed outrage over the perceived unfair treatment workers are receiving.
“Workers are very furious that American workers get 50% wage hikes from the company, while we get nothing,” she told YNews. Written by Naomi Kobbie
