Police spokesperson, Andre Traut, says the suspect was arrested in Kraaifontein yesterday.
Traut says crimes against women and children are on top of SAPS’ priority list, and they will not be turning a blind eye to any form of violence in this regard.
Minister of Social Development, Sisisi Tolashe, has also condemned the incident, which she has described as disheartening.
According to a study by the University of Cape Town PhD graduate, Roxanne Jacobs, approximately one in 10 older adults (65 years and older) have experienced some level of abuse, financial and emotional abuse at the hands of their relatives who share a home with them. This is usually for their pension money.

Apparently the circulating video of a boy beaten to a pulp by the community is not Luvo however, we still want to know where is he.
The EFF visited the home and spoke to the young boy who took the video, apparently Luvo is the one who asked for a video to be taken. 😡 pic.twitter.com/PuVYwUn7oP

Our communities play a pivotal role in assisting the SAPS to win the fight against crime, and so does the social media community. Working together by exposing criminality will go a long way in ensuring the SAPS brings perpetrators to JUSTICE! RE A LEBOGA SOCIAL MEDIA, LE KAMOSO! pic.twitter.com/vpklKZ5Jzg
