Congratulatory messages continue to pour in for South African stars Tyla and Makhadzi, after walking away with BET awards.
This year’s edition of the prestigious award ceremony took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Grammy Award-winning singer, Tyla, bagged two awards, Best New Artist and Best International Act awards.
The Water hitmaker beat Asake, Aya Nakamura, Ayra Starr, BK, Cleo Sol, fellow South African Focalistic, Karol Conka, Raye and Tiakola for the Best International Act award, for her first win of the night.
The 22-year-old who has, taken the global stage by storm, also got the opportunity to perform on the night, in a safari-themed high energy performance of ‘Jump’ from her album released in March.
She was accompanied by guest appearances by American rapper Gunna and Jamaican dancehall artist Skillibeng.

Taking to the stage, Tyla thanked the BET for always pushing the culture.

Limpopo-born Makhadzi scooped the BET Viewers’ Choice: Best International Act.
Makhadzi beat Bellah, Cristale, Duquesa, Holly G, Jungeli, Oruam, Seyi Vibez and South Africa’s Tyler ICU, to win her award.

Album of the Year went to Killer Mike. Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, a category in which Tyla was nominated, went to Sza. Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Usher.
