Proteas batsman, David Miller, says they are ready for a tough final tomorrow against a strong India side.

South Africa reached the T20 World Cup final for the first time, after they thumped over Afghanistan, winning by nine wickets yesterday morning.

Afghanistan had won the toss and they opted to bat first, with the hopes of setting a target that would be hard to chase.

However, things didn’t go Afghanistan’s way with the Proteas bowlers inflicting pain by limiting them to only 56 runs after 11.5 overs.

The Proteas literally cruised to the final, with the match finishing on 60-1.

The Proteas will now face the unbeaten India, who won by 68 runs, to reach their first men’s T20 World Cup final in 10 years.

Left-arm wrist-spinner, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Marco Jansen both got wickets at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.

Fast bowlers, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, were on form getting two wickets each.

Captain Aiden Markram praised the bowlers for setting the momentum of the game that led to Afghanistan’s quick dismissals.

South Africa, who won the 1998 Champions Trophy, had a history of failing to progress and choking in the semi-finals at previous World Cups, but has now broken that ‘curse’ – with an unbeaten record of eight wins.

Reeza Hendricks (29 not out) and captain Aiden Markram (23 not out) made sure that the South African team make it across that line to secure a spot in the final of the World Cup in Barbados.

This will be South Africa’s first senior men’s final since the inaugural Champions Trophy in Bangladesh in 1998, when the side led by Hansie Cronje defeated Brian Lara’s West Indies team in the title match.

The Proteas had previously won just one in 10 World Cup knockout games and had never made a final.

Markram says they believe that they can win trophies.

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture also congratulated the Proteas for their win.

โ€œWell done to the Proteas Men on reaching the ICC T20 World Cup final. You have made the nation proud. Bring it home Proteas.”

South Africa will now head for Bridgetown and the World Cup final at Kensington Oval tomorrow at 4.30pm SA time.

South Africans took to X to congratulate the Proteas for their incredible display.
