“People need to understand that the government that is being formed now is not an ANC-DA government, there are other political parties that are going to make sure that there are checks and balances in this so-called grand coalition or the Government of National Unity (GN8),” says political analyst, Goodenough Masego.

He was responding to mixed emotions some young South Africans have expressed over the ANC’s decision to formulate a Government of National Unity (GNU), with various parties, particularly with the DA.

The Yires, like Nelson Mandela’s great grandson, Mayibuye Mandela, believe it would have been better had the ANC hopped into bed with the EFF and MK Party.

However, Mashego says the lack of political education in South African schools has misled young people in politics today.

He’s expressed disappointment at the discontent on the GNU, coming from Mandela’s grandchild.

Mashego also weighed in on the calls for the EFF and MKP to become part of the GNU.

He believes that it’s progressive for the ANC to have shown willingness to work with the DA, for instance.

Mashego says the GNU been made up of the ANC, EFF, and the MKP only would have set the country back.

Other Yires agree with Mashego, urging those who are against the coalition to give it at least six months before concluding on it.

They are hoping that the set-up might force ANC government officials to be accountable and assist in the bid to eliminate crime and corruption. Written by YNews Contributor, Lamile Miya.
