Orlando Pirates legend, Teko Modise, believes that Relebohile Mofokeng should move to a European club as soon as possible.

The Pirates 19-year-old has set the local football scene alight since making his first team debut in the 2022/23 season, where he scored five goals in all competitions.

He went on to endear himself further to the Pirates faithful when he scored the winning goal in their 2-1 victory against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup final earlier this month, which subsequently saw the Buccaneers defend their crown.

On Tuesday, he made his Bafana Bafana debut against Zimbabwe in a 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier in Bloemfontein, which Bafana went on to win 3-1.

With all of the hype brewing around the teenager, it’s sparked the conversation on whether or not he should move overseas.

Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, was also roped into the conversation when he announced his squad for the June qualifiers, saying that he doesn’t think that the School of Excellence product is ready to make the jump just yet.

“No, no, no, he is not ready to go overseas, this is not the right moment. I said the same thing about Mailula. This is not the right moment to go overseas,” Broos said.

“He [Mofokeng] played, what, 26 games? Ok, but it’s his first season. He doesn’t have international experience, nothing. He must stay at Pirates, play another championship in South Africa, with CAF Champions League games maybe, hopefully, and he will be a better player,” added the Belgian.

Former Pirates talisman, Teko Modise, however believes the sooner the youngster moves, the better.

It’s no secret how much Modise likes the youngster having shared an intimate moment with him after the Nedbank Cup final, which went viral on social media.
