Sundowns, Stellies, Pirates headline PSL awards nominations

Mamelodi Sundowns, Stellenbosch, and Orlando Pirates are headlining the lists of candidates up for the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards.

The Sundowns duo of Teboho Mokoena and Ronwen Williams, alongside Stellies striker, Iqraam Rayners, have clinched nominations for the prestigious PSL Footballer of the Season Award, which is determined by the votes of the 16 DStv Premiership coaches.

Williams and Rayners have also been nominated in the DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the Season category, alongside Pirates attacking midfielder, Patrick Maswanganyi.

In the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season category, Stellenbosch FC’s Steve Barker who led the side to the first top-flight trophy (Carling Cup) faces off against league winning Sundowns coach, Rhulani Mokwena, and Jose Riveiro of Pirates who guided the Sea Robbers to the defence of their MTN8 crown.

The nominees for the MTN8 Last Man Standing, include the Pirates trio of Sipho Chaine, Zakhele Lepasa, and Maswanganyi.

Meanwhile, the Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament category sees Stellenbosch FC’s dominance, with Thabo Moloisane, Devin Titus, and Rayners all earning nominations.

In the Nedbank Cup categories, the Pirates pair of Tshegofatso Mabasa and Maswanganyi, alongside Stellies’ Rayners, have been nominated for the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament, while Shandre Campbell (SuperSport United), Relebohile Mofokeng (Orlando Pirates), Devin Titus (Stellenbosch) are competing in the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player category.

Youngsters Jody Ah Shene (Cape Town City), Ntando Nkosi (Mamelodi Sundowns), and Langelihle Phili (Stellenbosch FC) were nominated for the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the
Season category.
