Gcinile slaps Grootman with interdict

Social media influencer, Gcinile Twala, has slapped her ex-fiancé, Themba ‘Grootman’ Selahle, with legal papers, temporarily interdicting him from further sharing any nudity or pornographic material of her.

Selahle has also been barred from harassing or sending any threatening messages to Twala.

He will also have to pay his former fiancé’s legal fees for the interdict.

A hearing for a permanent court order has been set down for July in the high court sitting in Johannesburg.

Grootman sparked public outcry after he allegedly shared their intimate videos earlier this week.

Twala, who is a make-up artist, is being assisted by a young female advocate who had responded to anti-GBV group, Women for Change’s X post, calling for Grootman’s arrest.

The reasons why the forex trader, who is also an Instagram influencer, shared the footage remains unknown at this stage.

Social media law specialist, Emma Sadleir, has warned South Africans to refrain from engaging in such actions.

In 2019, President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the Films and Publications Amendment Act into law, making illegal in the country.

According to the legislation, nonconsensual distribution of private sexual content is a serious crime that is punishable with a fine of up to R300 000.

The offender can also be sentenced up to four years in prison.
