With the May 29 elections around corner, the ANC in Limpopo has suffered a blow after reality TV star, Papa Penny, ditched the party and joined former president, Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party).

Papa Penny’s move could see the governing party lose its support base of voters in the Mopani Region due to his cult following of music listeners in the area.

Papa Penny has previously served as an ANC ward councilor in the Giyani village of Nkuri.

The flamboyant musician, whose real name is Eric Nkovani, says he resigned from the governing party after a fallout with senior provincial leaders over the direction in which the party was heading.

The lack of multicultural diversity within the party’s provincial top five positions is among the issues he was not happy about.

Nkovani says he saw the MK Party as a viable option to follow because Zuma is an experienced politician, who strongly advocates for rural development.

Papa Penny cites the Muyexe Poultry Farm as one of the projects that testify to his commitment.

Papa Penny says another reason for his decision to join the MK Party is the love of serving others and he will, as a result, gladly accept any position the party awards him.

He has also emphasised to his fans that his political affiliation with the MK Party should not discourage them as he is still the same musician they know and love.

Papa Penny says he will continue to perform at any music concert he gets booked at without any hesitation.

Nkovani believes that the MK Party will grow its support base across the country, despite its current woes.

He says the party’s upcoming Mayibuye Rally to be held at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday will serve as the final push for former president Zuma’s return to Parliament after the May 29 elections. Written by YNews Limpopo Correspondent, Bukuta Nkuna
