The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Limpopo is accused of failing to settle a bill the organisation accumulated during one of its mother body’s election campaigns in Malamulele.
The ANC’s youth structure held its Collins Chabane Memorial festival at the Saselamani Stadium in March and is allegedly yet to honour its agreement to pay service providers for their work.
A fuming service provider, Phindhani Mashele, has told YNews that they have been waiting for more than a month for their payments to go through, but their accounts remain dry.
“We’ve tried our level best to get to the bottom of this, but nothing came up. We also tried to call our lLeadership, but none of them is willing to assist us.”
Some service Providers borrowed money from Vo- Machonisi to render the service. And they are now suffering. They don’t know where to GO. It’s so painful,” he adds.
Mashele insists that they had tried to contact regional leaders of the ANC for an intervention, but their calls went unanswered.
He says while they appreciate the party for granting them an opportunity to host its event, they cannot remain quite about their frustrations because majority of them had to borrow money from loan sharks in order to ensure catering services are not hindered.
The Chairperson of the ANC Youth League in Limpopo, Tonny Rachoene, says the organisation is aware of the matter and all service providers will be paid in due course.
Rachoene says they want to resolve the matter as soon as they can and turn their focus to helping the ANC to garner enough voter support for re-election.
The incident is reminiscent of a recent legal battle between the ANC and a KwaZulu-Natal marketing company in which the governing party was ordered to pay the firm R102 million for services rendered during its 2019 election campaign. Written by Bukuta Nkuna in Malamulele, Limpopo.
