With the MK Party set to cause a stir in the upcoming elections, Professor Dirk Kotze, says the party that will be most affected by MK’s participation in the hotly contested polls is the EFF.
Professor Kotze says considering that over several years the ANC has been losing votes, it has always been a question on which party the voters will supporting between the IFP or EFF and any other party.
On Tuesday, the Electoral Court in a landmark ruling set aside the IEC’s decision to bar former president Jacob Zuma from returning to Parliament.
A survey by Joburg think tank, the Brenthurst Foundation, from February and March, shows that the DA and MK Party will be the biggest winners as the ANC, EFF and the IFP are losing ground.
According to the survey, in KwaZulu-Natal, the MK Party is set to become the largest party by garnering 25% of the vote. The ANC will gain 20%, followed closely by the DA and IFP going neck and neck, clocking in at 19%.
It also found that the ANC’s support nationwide has fallen to 39%.

The poll also suggested that a national coalition government is highly likely after the general elections.

Professor Kotze says what we will see with these elections is that the loses of the ANC will be divided between the MK and the EFF, which will probably be a loss for the red berets.

And while the Electoral Court’s decision giving Zuma the green light to be on the party’s candidate list might not be popular with some, legal expert, Zola Majavu, says the court’s decision is a win for participatory democracy and the rule of law.
He says the case was a first in post democratic South Africa.
