The confession statement of one of the accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has detailed how Kelly Khumalo may have telephoned accused no 3, Mthobisi Mncube, in the moments leading up to Meyiwa’s killing.
This as new details of accused no 1, Muzi Sibiya, and accused no 2, Bongani Ntanzi’s, confession statements emerged in the Pretoria High Court today.
Boksburg Magistrate, Vivian Cronje, took to the stand.
She’s understood to have taken down accused Ntanzi’s confession statement in June 2020 following his arrest.
Reading out Ntanzi’s testimony, she described how the accused had recalled overhearing a phone call between Mncube and someone he called “Sistas” moments before the murder was carried out.
He told the magistrate that he suspects the woman was Kelly Khumalo.
Ntanzi has at the same time implicated Mncube as the one who fired the fatal shot, killing Meyiwa.
The football star was gunned down in October 2014 at Khumalo’s home, who was his girlfriend at the time.
The singer has been implicated as the mastermind behind the killing.
Five men are currently on trial for the footballer’s murder and proceedings in the matter will resume on Wednesday.
The adjournment followed defense lawyer, Thulani Mngomezulu’s request for more time to go through the evidence of some of the witnesses in the trial. Written by Naomi Kobbie
